Subject: Pole barn & concrete floors

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

Had a chance to take a couple pics of the brackets that hold my pole barn poles to the concrete slab. Brackets were made from 5" channel iron. The base was a one foot length and the upright was a one foot length that was welded to the base. The base had four pieces of #5 re-bar, cut 16 inches long and bent to put a four inch right angle at the end. Re-bar was welded to the base channel. The two outside lengths pointed straight down and two lengths were welded to the bottom flange of the channel and pointing inwards. Brackets were set in the wet mud as the slab was being poured and finished. The outside of the bracket was set in 2" from the edge of the slab. Once the slab had cured for a couple weeks, the posts were clamped to the upright with another length of 5" channel and two 5/8 bolts. The original plan was to clamp the posts and re-tighten after a year, and then weld the other channel to the base channel. It has now been 9 years and the welding hasn't been done - yet. The building required three different types of brackets.
