60 miles south of Indianapolis | Thanks so much for all the great input. I put her in the head gate again today and let the calves suck but she kept kicking at them. My wife and I gave them a bottle each this morning and this evening. They are now sucking really well. The cow is as gentle as can be still and had always been gentle. She will let me pet her. She just for some reason won't claim them. Tonight when my wife and I were feeding the twins their bottle the mom came over and licked on the steer so I quickly grabbed the steer and put his mouth on one of her udders. The calf started sucking but then the mom would walk off from the calf. I tried the heifer calf and same result. So as of now I am resorting to bottle feeding. I still have them all 3 pinned in the barn. Today I even set up gates to squeeze down the size of the pen to force the mom really close to the calves but she was trying to tear down the gates so i backed off and opened the pen back up so she would calm back down. |
