Subject: Case/IH 6088 Throttle problem

South Central Kansas, Harper County
Son was cutting wheat today, and suddenly lost power, RPM went from 2350+ to 1700-, alarm went off and code #188.4 was on display. Looked the code up in manual and it read 188= "Engine throttle", and the .4=" low voltage or short to source". Hadnt a clue what that meant so called local Case/IH. I was surprised they were open, but just parts, no service guys around. But old service manage is now in parts and he found a mechanic working in back with some knowledge of the 6088. He told me he had fixed several in that past that through that code, and it was frayed wiring, and he told me the location to inspect. So, I did, unfortunately, nothing showed up in that location. So called him back, he was now at home, but said he would bring it up on the computer first thing when he got in tomorrow morning. In the meantime, guess we get to shut down early from wheat harvest, although weve only been cutting one day!(lol)

Anybody have any ideas of what I might check?
thanks,
Jim
