Subject: Employment question regarding resignation notice duration

Southeast Colorado

I'm asking this for a family member.  They may soon have an opportunity to take a new job with a new company.  When they hired on several years ago with  their current company they signed a contract where it was stated that they would give 30 days notice if they wished to resign.  Several weeks ago their hours were cut due to a slow down in business. They told the boss that the cut in hours would not work well with them and hoped they could pick up extra duties to maintain their current salary.  Nothing changed and now they have found a new employment opportunity.   How does everyone feel about having an obligation to give 30 days notice as opposed to the typical 2 weeks?  The 30 day notice could interfere with their ability to get this new job.
