Subject: '91 F250 transfer case

Southeast Wyoming

The transfer case was jumping out of high range so we parked it for a couple of years but now we are needing it.  We pulled it out yesterday; the hi/low shift fork is shot along with the hi/low hub.  The outside had a LOT of blue silicone; the inside did also - the filter was entirely plugged with strings of blue silicone.  I have not had time for inspect the main shaft but the local 4x4 shop says it may be shot.  A rebuilt/bearing kit is $130 but the shop says the fork and hub will be expensive even if the main shaft is okay.

We are looking at a $825 rebuilt transfer case with $130 freight plus an additional $130 to return the core (to MN).  It will have a 3 year warranty.  It seems like a high price to me.  Do any of you know of a good reliable source that would be cheaper and freight would not eat up the deal?   A CO U-Pull-It yard wants ~$125 + $30 core; I'd do that but they never have one in the yard. TIA  Gary
