Subject: Population for replant/interplanting a weak stand of soybeans.

Monroe City, MO

I hate trying to decide what to do with a less than ideal stand of soybeans. Had counts anywhere between 40 and 120k. Probably half the field was above120k, another forth was 90k and the last quarter was 45-60k. So today, we thickened them up with 90k. Didn't tear up the old just went through them again. I've had a seed DSM years ago tell me if I needed to plant into an existing stand to go with a full rate. His thinking was the thicker original stand will just crowd out the new plants without hurting them while the thinner parts of the field will welcome additional plants.

What population do you plant when you have to thicken up a stand?
