N FLA | This is the land where i had winter grazing. I didnt have lease here and couldn't get confirmation about leasing the 20 acres of grass here. So i moved most of my cattle out and sold some. I had it down to about 7 cows on a 5 acre pecan orchard and working on getting those moved. They agreed to rent me the 20 acres of grass. I guess i have it until beans are harvested. I would like to pay a little rent and plant winter grazing. People here, not just this one, all people here, are the most undecisive you will find though.
Either way, they wouldnt bring any cattle in until January if they plant winter grazing and I can get my thin cows started on these pastures this fall.
One of the BTOs will let me rent winter grazing, and will actually work with me to do it cheaper than i can by paying land rent, inputs, custom rate, etc. But its all big fields, 4 fences and a water trough. It's not real conducive to my management. Getting calves in for castration, vaccine, blood preg testing cows, rotation grazing, etc. Here I have small fields, fences, pens, and a headcatch and can work cattle pretty easily. But I will do whatever i need.
They cut the fences to get the planter in here. I took the day off work to build a couple more gaps to keep cows out of the beans, and so he doesn't cut them again at harvest. I have a boy that will help me on his days off. He is a good worker. He flunked out of college at Christmas, but is taking summer classes online with the community college.
