Subject: alfalfa question

We have grown alfalfa for many years and this year we tried something different. In 2015 we lost an old field due to all the rain early in the spring so planted beans in late may on that field. This spring we are trying to sow it back to alfalfa. For the most part we have a pretty good stand except in a few places. In those places there are almost no plants at all. We have always aired on the side of caution with usually having a year in between alfalfa fields. So my question is the toxin that old alfalfa plants put out will that allow the new seedlings to come up and then die off or will it just not allow them to germinate and come up at all? I would say 80% of the field is good so trying to decide what to do. thanks in advance
