N FLA | Somebody told me that the increase in heifer retention and the buildup of beef cattle inventory was cattlemen trying to maintain a fixed $ amount of sales, while calf prices were falling? This other chart if found seems to match that. I think somebody else mentioned it was falling corn prices. I guess it is also very low culling rates, trying to get one more calf with cheap feed probably.
Looks to me like it was just late to the party, following some good years. Anybody care to discuss the conditions around that time. I found it interesting, but couldn't get a clear picture of the situation.
I think the second livestock market here in the county was built then, I would have to ask for more details on that one.
