Subject: feedlot economics?

Hearing alot about the high prices of feeder cattle and fat cattle. Is my experience with cattle feeders correct that some ride the open market always and some like to contract alot? Well if you are an open guy buying feeders earlier and selling fats now is there huge profit? Are you concerned about buying high calves and staying open on the fats and having them drop in 4 months? Also can you buy 800# feeders and lock in a profit feeding them out if you wanted to contract everything..feed and fats?
Just an honest question from an ex feeder here that hasn'tfed any for at least 10 years and out of touch with the economics but still interested in it and wont get it fully oyt of my blood ever.thanks
