Subject: 93 GMC battery drain ?

Southern IL Randolph County
On a 93 GMC 3500 truck we are having a voltage drain issue. This evening I did some checks and noticed that I have a reading of .4 volts on the negative post of the battery. I have recently replaced the headlight switch and the key switch has been replaced in the last couple of years with a Napa switch, which is not near as tight as a genuine GM. Sometimes it will go 3 to 4 weeks and start right up and then, as today the battery was completely drained. A few minutes on the charger and hit the boost and it will fire right up. Battery is 18 months old. This truck is very experienced with many other minor problems, but this one is a real pain. Could it be possibly the alternator has a short or what other things should I check? Thanks
