Subject: cow bloated during calving

Southwest Oklahoma

The Missus discovered a heifer in labor yesterday morning. She was bloated so big that her heels were high in air. Poor girl was dead before we could respond. I have never seen this accur before anyone have an answer as to what caused it and what is the proper handling should I see it again?
