Subject: Specialty Crops

Caldwell County, TX
I am considering going into the specialty crop business. Looking at watermelons specifically. Does anyone have experience growing watermelons on a large scale (more than the backyard patch)? Also what other high ROI crops should I consider looking into. There is a very large market for organic and farm fresh produce in my area. Labor is not a problem. Looking to dedicate maybe 77 acres to one or more of these crops. This 77 acres is very sandy land (fine sandy loam in some places too) which is not suitable for the row crops I grow on our blackland soils. It is currently grazed Coastal. Moving the cattle to another farm indefinitely for various reasons.
