Subject: 72 Million Acres?

Did I hear that right on WHO this morning. USDA says 72 million acres have been lot to urban sprawl since 1982. Lets ay that number is accurate. For sake of discussion, lets say they were all in corn/soybean country. On a 50/50 rotation, that'd have been 36 million acres of corn. Using last years USDA yield of 160, that is 5.7 BILLION bushels of corn we didn't grow. Looks to me like food vs sprawl is the real problem, not food vs fuel. I know one could get lost in the minutia of where the ground was, production and all that. Point is, food vs fuel shouldn't even be an issue if the facts were known.
