Subject: Figuring shrink on corn

northwest IL Lee Co
With all the talk of how to figure shrink of wet corn, I thought I would post how I was taught in college (university of IL). First, a bushel of dry corn contains 47.6 lb of dry matter (56*.85, .15 is water). To figure the weight of a wet bushel of corn, divide 47.6 by 1 minus the moisture of the corn in a decimal form. For example, with 20% corn, divide 47.6 by .8 (1-.20)and get 59.5. Use 59.5 to divide the wet weight of the corn by to get dry bushels.
