Subject: straw treated with lime

Just outside downtown Prairie Hill
I've been reading @ folks treating wheat straw or corn stalks with hydrated lime and water. Seems this procedure makes really good feed. Plan is to mix the lime at 5% of the dry mater of the wheat/stalks and then bring the entire mix upto 50% moisture by adding water. Then pile and pack the resulting mix for @ 7-10 days. Is anyone doing this and how is it working? Do I have the formula right? I'm planning to do a couple of bales of straw soon for a trial, just like to learn a bit more first. TIA
