Subject: Engine oil use comes and goes, what causes it?

Saronville NE
Ive got a tractor at home that may use 1/2 gal in 7 hours, 1 day, 3/4 gal of oil in 8 hours the next day, then may go a week or 30-40 hours and wont move off full, what would cause this. I just assumed broken ring or something with the oil use but then it quit all of a sudden, so now dont know whats going on, was doing the same kinda work the whole time with it, not a heavy load by any means. Fires right off and runs smooth. One mechanic told me it could be injector issues, maybe an injector leaking and washes wall down and burns the oil. Any day that it needs oil, it smokes more and has more blowby and doesnt have the power, the next day, it will be good again. Have changed fuel filters, changed oil, cleaned air filter, no rhyme nor reason to it. Any ideas?
