Subject: soybeans help manage plowpan?

NW IL
Dug my 4th pit today. It was corn on bean stubble. It was the only one that I couldn't really tell where the plowpan was when I pulled my knife through it. The last time it was chiseled was fall of 09. I could kind of see it, but couldn't feel any resistance from 5' all the way to the top.
I'm wondering if you guys who no-till and have cover crops have eliminated density changes?
