Subject: question on tile in drought

Rivers, MB
So this discussion happened a few months back before the drought got really bad.

It seemed that most who have bought into the idea of tile drainage felt that tile would help in a drought year. Or at least it wouldn't hurt. My sense was that the tile would help in a dry year once you had a really big rain. Which to me is not the issue.

Does having soil that had the free water removed hinder a crop which ends up running out of moisture?

Any thoughts now that many of you have experienced a real big drought? Anyone have a field that is partially tiled or where the tile is spaced really far apart? Is the crop better in between the tile? Or is it so dry that the the bit of extra moisture where the tile didn't affect the soil moisture not make any difference anyways?
