Subject: Ground loops/trenches for house geotherm education.

Mid-Missouri
I will likely be doing geotherm in a new house this spring/summer. The local installer charges about $950/ton for the trenching, plumbing, everything to get it hooked up inside the basement. This does not include the HVAC unit etc....just the outside stuff. He trenches about 6 feet deep, has a 9 ft trencher ditch witch.

I am strongly considering buying a trencher for the house project as well as for farm use. I need some recommendations for trenchers as well as some instruction on the loops for the geotherm unit. It was estimated that about 3000 ft of horizontol 1 1/4" pipe would be used. Where do you buy the pipe, do you simply lay it in the trench and backfill, etc.....It will be going in decent farm ground that is relatively flat on a hill.

I guess the reason for asking is I am looking to save some money from this install by doing it myself. I am confident everything done outside can be accomplished by myself as well, just looking for some direction.

Thanks.
