I dont want to start a pissing match but we are looking at getting a new to us chassis to put under our service body. Our service body is 11' long with a 3200# crane a 425 gallon fuel tank and loaded down with just about everything you would need in the field. The chassis we have now is a 02 Forf F450 with a 7.3 diesel and auto with no 4x4 with 290,000+ miles. Its getting a little tired and not so reliable anymore. We are looking at getting a 08ish Dodge 5500 with 4x4 and a 6 speed manual or a 08ish Chevy 5500 with a Allison and 4x4. The main concerns we have is in soft fields for getting around. Weve replaced the tranny in our ford twice because of ground conditions. Will the allison be a better tranny or should a guy just go with a manual. Its hard to find anything with a manual transmission anymore either. Thanks
