Subject: Texas style gooseneck bed

WC IL

I'm getting ready to build what I think is called a Texas style gooseneck bed for a truck. These are the style that have a "trough" for lack of a better word down the center for the neck to go in so you don't have to jack the trailer up so high to unhook it. CM Truck Beds seems to be one of the more popular manufacturers of them. My question is, does any one know how they support the outer edges of the bed so they won't droop when you put a load on the flatbed? The stringers won't be able to go full width because of the trough, would some heavy gussets next to the main sills be enough to keep the edges up? I'm not really wanting to put the skirting on the sides of the bed. It will framed on the rear of the bed similar to what CM does. The bed will be 10' long and 8' wide, with the trough going about 5' forward. Has anybody else ever done one like this? TIA.
