Subject: CWB thoughts

NE Saskatchewan

Most people forgot that the cwb was initially established october 12 1943, because canada was committed in supplying the british with relatively cheap wheat as part of the war effort. it was not initially formed for the benefit of the farmer. The mandate had changed over the years, but in my mind was like adding lipstick to a pig. You can doll it up, but it's still a pig.
Fear of change is breed into the farming culture. There are still farmers in western canada that treat the farm as a way of life and not a business, with the cwb as the their main religion or security blanket. With the access of market information and the ability to do business internationally from the seat of the combine, the farm marketing model has changed drastically since the days of the wheat board implementation. It's time to take the horse blinders off and take a step into the real world of marketing, where some people will win and some will lose, thats the nature of the beast.
