Subject: Cereal Rye with a Kinze split row

South Central IN
Hi. I'm trying something new this year since we no longer own a drill. I know a few guys on here have planted wheat with their Kinze planters. I am going to plant cereal rye into corn stalks using the cover plate over the seed disk. Soybeans will be planted next spring after burndown.

Can anyone offer an advice on population settings? I am looking to plant 1 to 1.5 bu/ac in 15 inch rows. Having some input from those that plant wheat with their Kinze would be a starting point. Have you had better stands running with the row or at an angle to the previous crop row?

I am most concerned about tire damage as I plant through bt stalks. My tires/duals are not able to run down the row. Fortunately, they are older tires.

Any other thoughts would be great!

Thanks,
Don
