![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=2622&type=profile&rnd=428) NE Iowa | OK - I am in East Central Iowa and know nothing about irrigated corn, so please forgive me if these are stupid questions.
I just saw a report from Texas that irrigated corn that went 235 Bu/A last year only made 120 Bu/A this year. I know it has been hot and dry there this year. Is this a case where you just can't dump enough water on the crop to make up for the lack of rain and hot temps? Is the amount of water limited by well capacity? Water rights? Law? Or does it just get to the point that the cost of pumping water doesn't net a positive $$ return?
I have always had this pre-conceived notion that running pivots is alot of work, but that it makes raising good yields every year a foregone conclusion. Obviously, I am wrong.
