Subject: Sorghum tissue test and "Fertigation"

Faunsdale, AL
Are there labs to send sorghum samples to that can test for nitrogen etc. Anyone with experience with doing this?

I've never done tissue testing on corn either, but want to do some on some forage sorghum I have planted double crop behind corn silage. Corn was really drought and heat stressed even for here in central Alabama, so I wonder how much of the ~ 170 pounds of N per acre is left. Also have pumped some lagoon water/slurry on after planting the sorghum to bring it up.

Adding anything now is going to be hard unless I can inject it into the irrigation water stream since the sorghum is solid seeded. Best of it is about 2' tall right now, really green and tillering profusely. It took 2 trips over with a traveling gun to get it out of the ground and even then, most of the ends didn't get enough to bring up a good stand. It was really dry in August!
