I'm thinking of doing a kitchen remodel to our 1890's farmhouse. The original kitchen had plaster walls and ceiling. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen and after 120 years of various leaks, the plaster is falling apart. The current kitchen was done in the 60's and currently has a drop (suspended) ceiling (2x4 grids) to cover the plaster. It has worked well, been repainted once, but currently looks "greasey" and dirty again from cooking and canning. It is difficult to clean. The ceiling is 9'. The room is 12x15. What materials should I be looking at for a kitchen ceiling? Keep in mind there is a bathroom overhead! Here is a layout that my wife and I came up with using a free program called Sweethome3D.
