Subject: Good farm dog?

I was reading the post below and need a good dog for the farm, and the kids. I can't seem to find one that is small enough for the tractor cab, but big, and smart enough to keep from getting eaten. i.e. coons, skunks, coyote, and the occasional mountain lion. Had a blue heeler, it was descent until it took a likeing to my old man, they like one person and one person only, and they pick who. Best dog I ever had was a (don't laugh) chihuahua pomeranian mix. That thing could run right up the tractor steps, not take up too much room, and still had a brain in its head. No other animals told it what to do, except for the neighbors malamute, which was the end of him.
