Reading through my owner's manual didn't help me much. The manual says that there should be a red safety button in the location that I have this switch thing installed. My tractor is newer than the 'red button' method that Steiger used, so my safety shutoff is integrated elsewhere in the electrical system.
So, what does this knob do? It turns, but I am not sure what happens because of my turning it???
The knob is the one to the left of the 'start aid' rocker switch in the first pic, the second pic is the back of the switch/knob...
