Subject: Margin money to cover an option. How much?

Talked to my trader/trading firm this morning to wire some excess money back to my bank.

I thought I could wire more than they said I could.

They claimed I needed all the money in my account to cover my short options to the full amount that may be need if the market would go completely against me.  I am not even close to that happening.   I thought you only need a percentage of the trade in their account.  Like when you trade on the board one option of corn you only need to put up part of the money, more if it is a spec. than if it is a hedge.  Are they pulling my chain?
