Subject: Front Articulated "What could of been"

What would the tractor world be like if IH would of took the following route.
- Released the front articulated 70 series (no 30 or 60 series)tractor in '81 side by side with the 50 series. This
would erase the negative reputation the 30 series gave to the design.
- Made the folllowing design changes to the 70 series
-Moved the engine back 2 feet to shorten the hood making the tractor more attactive and more manuverable
(Yes farmers care about looks)"Anteater"
-Available 18.4r42 tires
-Front poly fuel tank to better use avilable space and to make up for engine stealing a foot of tank space.
-More organized wiring and hose layout under the hood and in the pivot area.
-Do all the trans updates before they did the launch.
-Added a 225HP 7688 model
I think these changes would of made the design stay around and still be popular. The design has many avantages over the MFWD design.
-Wider and taller tires allow for alot more traction and flotation 18.4R42 350 sq inch vs 14.9R34 210 sqinch footprint
-Turns sharper than a MFWD especially in the 80's
-Don't need to use the brakes to turn
-Better weight ditrbution
-Can carry two large saddle tanks that are out of the way and still maintain a narrow transport width
-Large fuel tank combination
-When turning on the ends the rear tires follow the front tires resulting in less crops being run down
-Weight can be added to front wheels instead of "in the way" suitcase weights
I believe that if IH would of aproached the launch this way and Tenco would of researched the blending of the brands, better, we would live in a different world.
