Pasco WA. | Today I looked at a lot of corn that was planted and striptilled in one operation. We had a cold spring and early summer here this year. All of the corn that was planted following low residue crops looked great. The corn on corn had a lot of residue and didn't look as good. I like the ease of the one pass strip & plant but it looks to me like I can raise a lot better corn on corn with tillage. I suspect the primary reason is slow soil warm up. Would striptilling a month before planting warm the ground much faster? We are dry and irrigated here so drying the mud out is not an issue. | |
