Subject: Would you use some kind of vertical tillage?

Southwest Iowa
We're in the process of finally getting the corn out of the field that we had to leave over the winter cause of all the snow we received the past few months. Our operation is 100% no-till with both corn and soybeans. With the 200 acres that we have to pick this spring before planting arrives, there's going to be quite a bit of residue on those acres that didn't have the winter months to help break it down into the soil and might be some what of a challenge getting the seed into the ground on those acres when the planter does finally roll over it.

My question is, what would some of you use to help break-up the residue cover and get a better seed bed? I've been reading lately with all the moisture in the ground, a disc isn't really the best option cause you'd be actually compacting the soil worse underneath where the blades are going into the ground. We've never been around any kind of vertical tillage tools, but would something like that be a good tool to use? Do they not compact underneath the tillage zone like a regular disc would? If this would be the best route to go, what are the better vertical tillage pieces out there? Hopefully one could be found and rented for a decent price if this is the best way to go.

Thanks for any and all replies!
