Subject: Land Cost, how do you justify? Looking for some straight answers.

Belzoni, Mississippi
The post below about justifying land cost was very interesting. Me and my dad has always wondered how do you make those payments. Around here in Mississippi, the cheapest that i have seen land go lately is about $1,800 an acre. It seems all land mostly goes for $2,500. Upland, bottomland, cotton gorund or soybean ground. Most of its around $2500. Could someone give some straight answers on how do you justify land purchases. DO most people only purchase a few acres at a time or what? If its not to personal, what are some of your land payments on a per acre basis? Some people on the post below said that lnad doesnt pay for itself you just hold it and flip it. Why would a farmer risk such high cost just to flip it. For the person that posted that he had to work an off farm job for 20 years; what about if you cant afford to work an off farm job? HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY LAND PURCHASES?
