Subject: Windows 7 - mapping drives question

central mo
Been working on this one for a few days now. I cant seem to figure out where my problem is ....

My Problem:
I can't map drives to my file server from Windows 7 (W7) I receive a "Unknown Username or Bad Password" error after entering the logon credentials for the map.

What I've done:
I have successfully mapped a drive from the W7 maching to an XP Pro machine on the network .... which completely confuses me.
I am able to map drives from the XP machine to my file server.
And I can map drives from both the file server and XP machine to my W7 machine.
I've entered ComputerName\Username for the username, and the password, with absolutely no luck.
I am 100 percent sure I'm entering both the username and password correctly.
I've even tried mapping by using the ip address in this (ServerIP\username) format
Network discovery is ON everywhere
File and print sharing is ON everywhere
HomeGroup (which is specific to W7) is disabled.
Guest account is enabled within W7 and on the server
Permissions have been quadruple checked on the server
Under "Network" in "My Computer" I can see my Server Name listed there along with the other PC's on the network.

Help is much appreciated.
