Subject: how early can you plant oats?

Prairie Home MO
We are going to plant some oats and was wondering how early can you plant them that a freeze won't kill them. We use them for a cover crop in the fall and freeze in late Nov will mulch them. We are fairly dry here again so could get them in late Jan if they won't freeze. Usually shoot for Feb early March seeding here. Thanks Robert
