| Frost advisory issued for NW Illinois

The National Weather Service office in the Quad Cities has issued a frost advisory from 3 a.m. until 8 a.m. Wednesday morning for Jo Daviess, Stephenson and Carroll counties in Illinois. Low temperatures early Wednesday morning are expected to range from 32 to 25 degrees. Nearly calm winds and clear skies will create favorable conditions for frost in those areas. The NWS says the impacted counties should experience 3 to 5 hours of frost that will impact crops. Frost advisories have also been issued for northeast Iowa, eastern Minnesota, and the southern two-thirds of Wisconsin. Freeze warnings have been posted for northern Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Hopefully we dodge it. We are in LaSalle county, and I would guess we still have a great deal of corn that won't black layer for at least another 10 days. It's going to be a long haul for people without drying capabilities. I would guess that most of the corn around this area will not see moisture levels below 25%, unless people want to let it sit there until December. A frost here would do a great deal of damage to test quality and test weight in corn, and hurt some of the group 3 beans.
