Subject: 2024 Corn Observations so far

N.W. Ohio
1. Tar spot located in northern Indiana already. Earliest it’s ever been spotted if true.

2. RIB not growing? Not confirmed but it seems like I have skips that almost lineup with RIB not even germinating going by seed coating color. Not sure why.

3. Thrips in corn. Yes, scouting I have confirmed that there are thrips in corn in our area right ahead of a long dry hot spell which probably is not good. Can for sure see the whitish scars they leave on the leaf. Very hard to see them and hard to see the visual symptoms from road. Not a lot of research done on them in our area and I don’t think they cause a lot of damage.
