just a tish NE of central ND | I have a hand crank winch with the brake on the cable release side.
....>>this>>>...Years ago, I oiled up all the moving points with spray lube and I got oil on that brake pad where it shouldn't be at and it's been a miserable sucker to crank backwards. The oil makes the brake pad sticky. It is much easier to lift the elevator then to crank it back down against that brake on the winch. USING brake clean spray and gasoline to clean it up has NOT helped it get back to normal friction level.
Is there a way to clean it or loosen it up or adjust it rather than throw the whole winch in the scrap wagon? It really doesn't have any adjustment that I can figure out, but I really haven't put much effort towards troubleshooting it, so I thought I'd just ask here in case I'm missing an easy fix.
