ecpa | A while back I mentioned sending in soil samples for a small triangular field that I have in beans. I removed the fence row near the point of the triangle and the next field. By taking out the fencerow I hope to relieve some of the compaction on the point. Beans in the fencerow look great compared to the triangle point of the original field so I did comparison sample of each with the sample about twenty feet apart.
Results were: PH for both 7.5 (the old lime kiln is still across the blacktop), CEC 17.2 for both, P-K-Mag are all above optimum. K is the most out of wack- fencerow K is 150 ppm and field K is 328 ppm. P is 241 in the field vs 203 in the fencrow. Zinc, copper and sulfur are all higher in the fencerow. This field had sludge on it about 15 yrs ago when they just dumped the loads on a pile and the past owner spread it with his 520 JD loader tractor.
Last soil test was 4 yrs ago and PH rose .7, P&K have risen quite a bit.
Soil test recommendation for next yrs corn is just for 160 uits of N. Anything else I can do to bring it back in line.
