Subject: Gleaner Feeder House Chain Speed - 12row Corn Head

Iowa
For the guys running a 12 row corn head on a Gleaner S77 or S78 do you have the feeder house chain speed set to the slow speed? Book says to change it to slow side for corn but also have talked to someone saying to leave it on the fast speed typically used for beans because of the 12rw head.

Also anyone ever ran their concave wide open at 1.5 and still not see any corn left on the cobs? Combined 200-235 bushel corn tonight and couldn't get the small cob pieces out of the sample until I increased concave clearance from .8 to 1.2+. I told my brother to check the cobs as I was going to keep increasing it until we saw some corn being left on them. Even at 1.5 I never saw anything unthreshed. I am seeing some rotor loss also and the convave helped some...think I need to decrease cylinder even more after seeing the Quick Reference Guide on Gleaner's site. They are recommending 250-300 for dry corn and the book shipped with combine says 300+. I was at a field previous to this one today and I was running 370 on cylinder and .8 to .9 on concave and didn't see any loss even at 4.5MPH. I was getting small pieces of cob in the sample though. Concave clearance would have fixed that...last year I never had to go over .8 so never thought to go 1.0+ until tonight on this other field. What I was getting to though was the rotor cage plate was left one by accident in the first field and when I took it off before starting the second field I definitely have had more loss. Going to try putting it back on to see if it makes a difference but wanted to hear opinions on this plate...last year I took it off in a field to get loss down from 1 bushel / acre to .5.

FYI - once you get a drago corn head on these things they definitely thresh differently from just the ears getting into the processor minus the MOG.

Thanks in advance.
