Subject: Africa and genetically modified food

I have a blog called GMO Africa, (http://www.gmoafrica.org), which, among other things, seeks to create understanding about genetically modified crops. I am particulary interested in encouraging Africa and other poor countries to experiment on genetic engineering. Countries such as the US, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina are freely growing genetically modified crops. They then sell them to poor countries. My big question is, why don't poor countries grow their own genetically modified crops?
