Subject: RE: Sprouting corn

Oswald No-Till Farm Cleghorn, IA
Greetings,

I am seeing some of that as well. On the down corn, some of those ears have some sprouts. Some of the standing corn has sprouts.

It is a function of the husk opening and conditions favoring sprouting. With high heat (propane, nat gas) driers, I doubt you will see any problems as the amount of tissue that makes it to the bin will be limited and that that does will dry up. Also, a freeze that kills the plant should kill the sprouts.

It is just another loss of yield we will be taking in this area.

Tom
