In Maryland we have a Nutrient Mangement Training Manual that is surprisingly thorough and well written, and includes some very useful information on soil fertility. It has some good description of a myriad of fertilizers and limes, goes through various crops explaining nutrient needs and uptakes, and even has a section on the use of poultry litter, cow and swine manure, as well as sewage sludge. I found it helpful, and I most certianly do not have any sort of degree in agronomy. I can look into finding one for you if you would like.
