Boyd, WI | Is there ever such a thing as too much magnesium in a soil? I'm going to be renting some ground for the next five yrs that has about 300 to 380 ppm Mg, and needs some lime badly (6.0pH). The owner seems to think that the Mg level is too high and wants to see Hi-Cal lime applied instead of the traditional 80-89 in our area. From the soil bibles I have, the Mg is just at optimum level for that clay loam soil.
My problem is that 80-89 will run us about $24/ton delivered/spread, while Hi-Cal is $35+/ton. What should I do? Thanks. | |
