Martinsville, Ohio | Good points, both, A soil test would be the best 12 bucks you could spend but it is time to sow seed right now. I would blend the triple 12 or whatever with an equal or greater amount of pellet lime unless the soil is over 7 pH but we don't know because we don't have a soil test. If you can blend the seed and fertilizer and lime together you can get a nice spread with the a cyclone seeder or lawn spreader. I like real high rates of grass seed or heavy on the rye so it establishes quickly. 100 lbs per acre is not too high with these turf grasses and higher rates of produce beautiful weed free lawns. 7-10 lbs per 1,000 square feet is what I shoot for.
The fineleaf tall fescues don't tiller so the more you spend on seed the less you will spend on fertilizer and herbicide. Lots of good fact sheets out there and I am sure Kansas is no exception...
