Martinsville, Ohio | Tall beans are the norm in most fields I have seen this year Tyler. Doesn't matter if they are 80k or 225k, they are mostly taller than normal. Even short varieties are taller than usual and yes it was the the growing year. When the heat hit they were so "suppressed" in size the plant tried to overgrow itself I think.
Most farmers are concerned they are not as good as they look and the combine will tell the story. Good yields, maybe some record yields. It will be interesting to see if it is a record yield nationally. Personally I don't think so, too cool too long and too hot too long for record yields...
But we will take a good yield...
Sharp cycle bars, cutting at angles, head mods etc, adjusting the combine for maximum feed will pay good dividends in harvesting this crop as usual... | |
