So. IL | I know of folks that have have seeded soybeans by airplane into standing wheat for doublecrop purposes. I don't know why it wouldn't work in rye or oats.
I don't know what kind of soil temperatures or moisture that you have but around here (So. IL) a 2-3 foot tall cover crop provides plenty shade to keep the soil surface moist long enough to allow broadcast soybeans to germinate.
Try seeding a bag of beans next year by hand into the type of cover that you are referring to see what happens. | |
