I've been on both sides of this arguement over the years. I really like buying by the count. The last 2 years we bought by the unit beans we ended up plus or minus 80 acres! By that I mean I took what my supplier said the seed count should be and calculated how much seed I needed. One year I came up 80 acres of seed short, one year I came up 80 acres of seed too much. And that supplier did not take returns on beans. Fortunately we always havesome wheat so I just doubled cropped until it ran out. For the last 2 years we have planted 100% Beck's. Because of their seed treatment and their recommended planting rate we cut our population by almost 40,000. I did have one problem with one variety. My SI beltmeters don't handle super-sized seed very well and one variety had some big beans in it. Beck's warned me it might be a problem but I didn't listen.
