Ilderton, Ontario | Ron, I'm siding with Wayne on this one. While I see the merit of the idea. I can generate savings by buying small seeded varieties. (2800-3200) The savings are substantial! Another thing is, since I am also a seed grower, how do you compensate a seed grower? If you are selling by the seed, growers are going to want small seeded varieties to grow to generate more $$.
In short, if you are willing to compromise, and adjust do to varying seed sizes, there will be savings. If you are looking for convenience....look to pay MORE!
I used to be in the seed retail business. I new the customers that would plant seeds/acre and the ones that would plant #/acre. I placed the seed with the appropriate people. Also, being a retailer fro some time, there are differences in varieties. Variety X will usually be larger/smaller than Variety Y by Z%. Z can be as much as 30-40%. I don't want to give up the 30-40% savings in seed cost!
